Position Description

As a Backend Engineer at Housing.Cloud, you will focus on developing, optimizing, and securing our backend infrastructure. Leveraging your expertise in databases, serverless architecture, and real-time data synchronization, you’ll ensure that our application remains responsive and reliable. Your work will form the backbone of Housing.Cloud, supporting data integrity and enhancing the overall performance of the platform as we scale.

Responsibilities

  • Build and Maintain Backend Infrastructure: Develop scalable backend systems and APIs using Supabase and PostgreSQL, ensuring data integrity and accessibility for frontend applications.

  • Real-Time Data Synchronization: Implement real-time data synchronization using Supabase, enabling instant updates to user data without manual refreshes.

  • Optimize Database Performance: Manage and optimize PostgreSQL databases to handle high volumes of data and ensure efficient query performance.

  • Ensure Security and Compliance: Implement best practices for data security, including multi-factor authentication (MFA), role-based access control, and data encryption to protect sensitive student and institution data.

  • Deploy and Manage Serverless Functions: Build serverless functions and APIs, ensuring seamless integration with the frontend and maintaining low latency.

  • Continuous Integration/Continuous Deployment (CI/CD): Use Vercel for deployment, automating build and release processes to support a fast development lifecycle.

  • Collaborate Across Teams: Work closely with frontend engineers, product managers, and designers to ensure backend functionality aligns with user needs and product vision.

  • Troubleshoot and Debug: Diagnose, debug, and resolve issues within the backend infrastructure, maintaining high availability and performance.

Qualifications

  • 3+ years of experience in backend development, with a strong understanding of serverless solutions, particularly with Supabase and PostgreSQL.

  • Proficiency in designing, optimizing, and managing relational databases, with specific experience in PostgreSQL.

  • Skilled in creating RESTful APIs and serverless functions to support frontend requirements, including experience with real-time data synchronization.

  • Experience implementing security protocols, including multi-factor authentication, role-based access control, and data encryption practices.

  • Familiarity with Vercel or similar CI/CD platforms, and knowledge of version control systems such as Git.

  • Strong analytical skills and the ability to troubleshoot and resolve complex backend issues.

  • Effective communicator with experience working alongside frontend developers, product teams, and design stakeholders.

  • Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, or a related field, or equivalent practical experience.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Familiarity with AWS services and cloud-based scaling strategies for serverless applications.

  • Experience with Cloudflare for optimizing backend performance, security, and load balancing.

  • Knowledge of handling and optimizing real-time data flows to create responsive applications.
