Systems Engineer
Systems Engineer
We are looking for a Systems Engineer with a strong background in backend development, event-driven architectures, and data integrations to help build and maintain our core infrastructure. This role is not purely DevOps—it is focused on scalable integrations, data pipelines, and backend product development to support customer onboarding, system performance, and platform extensibility.
You’ll work on enterprise integrations, ETL pipelines, and API-driven workflows, helping institutions migrate from legacy systems while ensuring seamless data interoperability. Familiarity with event-driven architectures is a must—our platform relies on asynchronous processing, webhooks, and serverless functions to ensure seamless automation and integration.
Since this is a startup, flexibility is key—while the role is primarily backend-focused, we expect you to be comfortable jumping into occasional frontend tasks if needed. If you’re the type to complain about touching frontend code when necessary, this probably isn’t the job for you.
Responsibilities
Design and maintain integration frameworks that connect Housing.Cloud with university enterprise platforms.
Develop and optimize ETL pipelines for seamless data migration from legacy systems.
Architect and maintain event-driven workflows, ensuring reliability and performance.
Enhance backend API services for high-performance, scalable integrations.
Contribute to backend product development, including core platform features.
Improve system security, reliability, and performance through scalable backend architecture.
Work closely with Solutions Engineers to troubleshoot and resolve complex integration challenges.
Collaborate with Product Engineering to build new features, primarily on the backend (but yes, sometimes on the frontend too).
Support ML/AI-driven features, including infrastructure optimizations.
Qualifications
5+ years of experience in backend engineering, systems integration, or SaaS infrastructure.
Proficiency in API development and system integrations.
Experience working with event-driven architectures and asynchronous processing.
Strong understanding of cloud platforms and serverless infrastructure.
Experience with ETL workflows and data transformation.
Comfortable working with databases and large-scale data processing.
Understanding of security best practices for cloud-based systems.
Ability to diagnose and resolve complex system and integration issues.
Flexibility and startup mindset—occasional frontend work might be required, and that shouldn’t be a dealbreaker for you.
Preferred Qualifications
Experience with serverless architectures and modern web frameworks.
Familiarity with MLOps and ML infrastructure.
Experience integrating with enterprise and legacy systems in higher education.
Previous experience in a fast-paced startup environment.
Benefits
Competitive base salary
Equity options based on performance
Flexible PTO
Health, dental, and vision coverage
Remote-friendly work culture
